In the morning mist

This is a piece by this artist that I have always had my eye on, so I am pleased to have an opportunity to write a crit on it.

The first thing which strikes me about this is the strongly contrasted branches of the tree. Not only are they strongly contrasted, but they are intricate. One gets lost in their complex network of twisting, writhing forms.

The second most prominent characteristic of this work is the spectrum of tones This is particularly prevalent on the left hand side of the image in which the trunk of the tree contrasts with the off-white of the water, as well as a little of the embankment. Then, of course, there is the tones with lighten from the right hand side to the left, showing the range of tones within this work.

All in all a very pleasing piece with much depth, variety and clarity. Good work!
