Artist's Comments

This is the most odd, strange, weird insect that i have ever seen!!

Taken behinde our house on a tree.

LOOK THE FULL VIEW!!!!!!!

Here, then, is a member of a most unpopular group. It's a fly belong to a family called the scorpionflies, and this is the first one I've ever seen anywhere in the world. They're a much older family than even butterflies or moths, first appearing about 250 million years ago.

Scorpionflies are very recognizable from the shape of their head, but this family gets its name because the males of some species have abdomens which curl upwards and forwards, like the stinger of a scorpion. In fact, they are harmless and eat soft fruit and dead insects.

As soon as I came across this artist's gallery I clicked the WATCH buttom almost instantly. Such a great collection of nature macro all in one place!

This shot is certainly no exception to the high standard at which this artist works. The lighting, composition e.t.c are all spot on. However, it is the extra little details which make me enjoy this photograph more than usual. For example, the enthusiasm with which the artist speaks about capturing insects conveys the enjoyment they feel and the pleasure they take in their art. In addition, the stacks of interesting information that accompanies this image's artist's comments really brings this scorpion fly to life.

Great capture and keep up the inspirational levels of enthusiasm! :)
